The Mobile Health Records System

Mobile Health Records are similar in size and shape to most magnetic stripe card, such as credit cards. Mobile Health Records, though, have an embedded programmable computer chip with a microprocessor and substantial amounts of digital memory.

Mobile Health Records provide the ability to read and write data to the card; healthcare providers will be able to view and update information after the patient authenticates using their pin code. The provider can then validate the identity of the patient. After authenticating, the patient is done—there is no need for time-consuming paperwork. The Mobile Health Record is carried and used in a similar manner to insurance cards. The only difference, though, is that the Mobile Health Record is also a store of Personal, Administrative, and Medical information. The patient is in control of this card at all times.

Technical Details

Mobile Health Records and similar Smart Card technologies are somewhat new in the United States Healthcare industry. They are not, however, a new technology. Smart cards have been used in the healthcare industry and many other industries in Europe for over a decade now. In addition to being a relatively proven technology, our cards are also  inexpensive. They can vary in cost depending on the amount of storage capacity, but in general the costs are very low. The overall costs for our system are a mere fraction of what most Electronic Health System providers require in order to implement. While their approach invariably leads to modification of workflow and business processes, our system leaves previously tried practices in place.

Our system uses a Smart Card reader that is compact, lightweight, and easy to use. The reader is compatible with most major operating systems such as Windows 2000 and Windows XP. The reader is connected to the PC through a USB port, which is a common interface on most PCs today. The health care provider needs no technical knowledge to install the reader nor any technical expertise to use it. Just insert the card and our software will recognize the reader, which is powered via the USB connection.

The Mobile Health Records System utilizes the health care provider's standard office computers to operate—there is no need to overhaul the technology infrastructure. Our software operates perfectly on any current Windows operations System. The software is loaded, along with the reader, onto each office computer that will be used to read and write to the card.
